You could be wearing Google Glass as early as next year

We can't wait for Google Glass to pump some Android goodness directly into our retinas, and now we have our first inkling of when we can expect to see units available for the general public.

According to Glass enthusiast Robert Scoble, Google is planning to rent 6,000 square feet inside every Best Buy retail store in the US next year so that it can display, demo and sell Google Glass to consumers. At the moment, only Glass Explorers (who have paid US$1500 for the privilege) are using Google Glass, leaving normal tech-heads in a permanent state of envy.

There's no specific time frame for the release mentioned as of yet, but it's good to see that the gears for a general Glass release are in motion. Assuming of course that the rented Best Buy spaces aren't just for displaying the rest of Google's products like the Chromebook Pixel new Nexus 7 and Nexus 4.

In the meantime, we'll just have to make do with strapping our phones to our faces while trying not to walk into things. Sigh.
