Microsoft is advertising its upcoming version of Windows with television ads that celebrate the return of the Start button.
The Redmond giant controversially omitted the familiar Start button with release of Windows 8 to much decree from its traditional fan base.
The commercial focuses on a hand sifting through Windows' tiled interface as an Australian narrator says: "Start up like this. Or like this. And hit the Start button to flip back and forth."
In addition to touting the return of the Start button, the commercial focuses on Windows being touch friendly and available on multiple devices.
"You can do it all, simpler and easier on your Windows tablet, PC or Surface," the commercial continues.
New Windows 8.1 features include a single search field, access to new applications, and a more configurable lock screen.
Windows 8.1 will be released in Australia on Friday the 18th of October as a free upgrade to existing Windows 8 customers. Microsoft claim the download will vary between 2.5 to 3.3GB in size.
Windows Phone
Microsoft is also pushing its Start screen on smartphones following its announcement today the company will be rolling out an upgrade to Windows Phone (WP). The smartphone platform now supports five and six-inch devices, paving the way for new WP phablet devices.
Other improvements to Windows Phone include a customisable driving mode, new accessibility features, improved internet sharing and better storage management.
