Veritas, EMC storage arrays link up

Veritas has shipped new Storage Extension software that lets it's Indepth application performance manager (APM) monitor EMC hardware to squeeze performance from databases running on EMC arrays.

Veritas Storage Extension, which uses storage giant EMC's open API to integrate the Indepth APM to EMC hardware, is claimed to let storage administrators fine-tune the performance of popular enterprise databases -- such as Microsoft's SQL Server, IBM's DB2, and Oracle -- by detecting, diagnosing, and correcting performance problems as transactions occur in real-time.

The add-on is claimed to allow Indepth to display metrics for Oracle and SQL Server databases running EMC's Symmetrix and CLARiiON storage arrays, and for IBM's DB2 operating on the Symmetrix series.

'Storage Extension provides another core building block to help companies manage the performance, capacity, and reliability of their IT operations to meet the changing demands of the organisation, the fundamental promise of utility computing,' said Robert Maness, Veritas' senior director of product marketing in a statement.
