Uplinx Group has won a contract to deploy 2,500 Cisco IP telephony endpoints to six NSW councils.
The Sydney-headquarted systems integrator will deploy a Cisco solution so council can use voice and video collaboration tools. Uplinx is also deploying a new LAN architecture to all six councils.
Uplinx managing director Marco Delgado said the biggest challenge with working with councils was their outdated infrastructure.
"The councils had aging telephone infrastructures and required systems that would provide intelligence relating to incoming calls and customer contact via telephony and contact centre options," said Delgado.
The contract was awarded in January after a closed tender released late 2015.
The project includes planning and design, configuration, deployment and support. The support and management will be provided over the next five years, with the possibility of renewal.
Uplinx expects the project to be completed by November 2016.
According to Uplinx, the group has been working with councils since 2012. The systems integrator has won several tenders in which it provided wi-fi, IP telephony and unified communications, network security and LAN/WAN architectures.
Uplinx said it has the highest number of Cisco CCIE engineers in Australia outside Cisco. The Sydney integrator currently employs 29 people and has branches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth.
Recently, the integrator was awarded a contract with the Westmead Children's Hospital to deploy Cisco and F5 Networks technologies as part of a patient's entertainment system.
