Unwired inks Harvey Norman deal

Wireless ISP Unwired has signed a deal with Harvey Norman to get its wireless broadband modems into all the latter's Sydney computer stores from 19 August.

David Spence, CEO at Unwired, said Harvey Norman was critical in its drive for increased sales.

"Harvey Norman is one of Australia's most recognised retail brands and its support at this stage is a very positive step for Unwired," he said.

Spence said that Unwired's marketing would get a boost and that should, in turn, spark demand. The retail company would complement Unwired's direct sales and wholesale channels, he said.

Unwired has nearly completed its Sydney network. More than 70 percent of Sydneysiders can access its network, with 95 percent expected to be able to get coverage when the network is completed, Unwired said.

On Friday, Unwired announced that it had extended coverage to Seaforth, Balgowlah, Epping and Carlingford in Sydney's north.

Colin Wright, product and marketing manager for communications at Harvey Norman, said the Unwired offering was "exciting".

"Its fast set-up time, portability and simplicity will have huge appeal to our customers," Wright said.

The retailer would offer Unwired modem packs for $189. Buyers then connect to Unwired's website to activate the service, the company said.
