International roaming telecoms provider Truphone is on the hunt for channel partners to expand its reach into the small and medium-sized business market.
“Our motivation in recruiting channel partners is to reach out to what we see as a big, fragmented market,” said Truphone’s local managing director, Alex Blinko.
The company operates as a hybrid between a mobile operator, and a v virtual network operator. It has roaming deals with telcos on most major continents, and also has its own GSM backbone linking six countries.
Blinko said the company is looking for both traditional and non-traditional network channel partners. He said he sees a major opportunity for growth in partnering with organisations in the travel industry, along with telco-focused partners.
“Our end users are people who travel frequently and have an international lifestyle,” he said.
The company is relatively small in Australia, and has until now focused on the big end of town. It boasts around 4000 corporate clients, including banking giants JP Morgan and Credit Suisse.
The move to focus on SMB has meant the company recently employed additional channel managers, including one starting shortly in Melbourne. “SMBs also do a lot of travel, and so along with our existing large clients we see a real opportunity at that end of the market,” he said.
