The only way is up for Distribution Central
Distribution Central Pty Ltd has been ranked 8th in the 2007 BRW “Fast 100” list of Australia’s fastest growing companies, achieving 169 percent cumulative growth over the three years it has been in operation.

The specialist distributor operating in Australia and New Zealand represents global technology leaders and its business units include Firewall Systems, Networld Systems and RED Education.

Looking to enter the data storage and voice markets, Distribution Central shows no signs of slowing down. “It’s great to receive an independent accolade outside the channel,” said Nick Verykios, marketing director, Distribution Central. “We’re very buzzy at the moment.”

The recent award is one of several business milestones the company has realised in the last year. Distribution Central has moved to a new logistics facility in Artarmon, launched new vendors and two new business units, and received awards for ‘distributor of the year’ from a number of vendors.

“If you don’t grow three to four times faster than the market then you’re not going to get anywhere,” said Verykios. “There’s been massive chaos [in the distribution space] and we’ve capitalised on that chaos.”

“Scott and I re-entered the market in July 2004 from humble beginnings as we thought this through while gazing out into the ocean and sipping a red on my balcony in Coogee, saying to ourselves ‘mate, do you think we can do it again?’,” said Verykios. “We’ve realised there’s no growth in logic … you have to do things for vendors and resellers, offer opportunities.”

While he admits the changing landscape of the IT industry, specifically the channel, is “funky”, Verykios is optimistic about the future of Distribution Central and believes the distributor will go from strength to strength.

“In the next 12 months we will see so much change in the way distributors service customers,” he said. “Our industry is operating under extreme change, more so than any other time I have witnessed over the past 20 years, and it's exciting to know we are in the most dynamic sector of IT – the channel.”
