The Ivy offers free wi-fi to collect customer data

Sydney nightspots the Ivy and the Establishment have commissioned wi-fi solutions provider SkyFii to trial free internet connections for their patrons.

Hospitality company Merivale - which operates the two venues - revealed the free wi-fi trial would run for four weeks, with a view to providing the service permanently to its customers.

The network will cover eight venues in the Ivy complex and six bars and eateries in the Establishment, both located on George St in the Sydney CBD.

ASX-listed SkyFii is currently deploying the technology into the venues and will also manage the system.

"The trial provides the ideal mechanism for SkyFii to demonstrate the value of our services first-hand," said SkiFii chief executive Wayne Arthur. "We welcome the opportunity to partner with [Merivale] to make our unique free wi-fi services available to patrons at their Ivy and Establishment venues."

SkyFii provides free wi-fi systems that collect data about customer behaviour, which retailers can use for targeted marketing.

In Sydney, the Queen Victoria Building, The Galeries, Chiefly Plaza, the Strand Arcade and World Square already use the technology. Earlier this year, SkyFii, in partnership with Optus Business, signed a landmark deal with Westfield to deploy wi-fi technology in 21 shopping centres.
