Microsoft's country partner of the year, Readify, has revealed how it migrated aged care software provider iCareHealth to Azure.
Software developer iCareHealth faced challenges scaling its product, which is used to provide care to more than 50,000 residents for clinical and care management and more than 30,000 residents for medication management.
The company turned to Readify, which rebuilt the new software "from scratch" for the cloud and migrated it to Microsoft Azure.
Readify chief executive Graeme Strange said it was like "building a plane in flight".
"You need to rebuild because of the multi-tenant component. You can virtualise in hardware but that is not the right way to do it."
Strange confirmed that the application was hosted here at Azure Australia.
The project has paid off for iCareHealth with multiple performance dividends: software development is quicker, updates are rolled out faster, and nursing staff have gone mobile, "capturing information at the point of care, rather than back at the nursing station".
Craige Pendleton-Browne, chief technology officer of iCareHealth, said: "Many of our clients don’t have dedicated IT people to manage infrastructure and the cloud also means they get access to upgrades much quicker. Their backups are also managed centrally in the cloud."
Microsoft launched Azure Australia out of data centres in Sydney and Melbourne last October.
Telstra acquired iCareHealth late last year, part of the telco's push into both the health field as well as the IT space. In 2013, Telstra bought a 50 percent stake in another health technology firm, Fred IT.
