Telstra CIO departs
Telstra’s chief information officer, Fiona Balfour, has left the telco giant after only 10 months in the role.

Balfour was responsible for leading Telstra's centralised IT organisation and core IT programs as well as overseeing the company's Operations Support System (OSS) and Business Support System (BSS) transformational programs. She joined Telstra after 14 years with Qantas, the last five as CIO.

In a message sent out to Telstra’s employees, Greg Winn, chief operations officer at Telstra confirmed Balfour had decided to leave the company to pursue other opportunities.

“I regret Fiona's decision and wish her well for the future. I particularly want to thank Fiona for her contribution leading the IT Services (ITS) team in the past year and for putting in place the best people and infrastructure to support the IT transformation program,” he said.

Winn added the ITS leadership team will report to Telstra’s business transformation adviser, Tom Lamming, for the time being.

Telstra claimed it will fill the vacant CIO position “in due course”.
