Targus recalls AC plug head adaptor for dual monitor dock

Electronics accessories vendor Targus is recalling a line of AC plug adaptors for one of its peripheral docking station products, over fears the part may pose an electric shock risk.

The Targus Dual Video Universal Docking Station is a multi-device power supply and docking unit that supports the connection of laptops, USB-powered items and computer peripherals such as monitors, mice, keyboards, printers and other devices into a single hub.

The hardware is being recalled after the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission found that in some circumstances the docking station's own wall plug adaptor's faceplate could separate from its body when being removed from a wall socket, leaving live parts exposed.

The consumer watchdog is warning consumers that they shouldn’t attempt to unplug the AC transformer in question without switching off the power to the transformer at the power source.

“If you are not certain that the power has been switched off, seek qualified help to confirm the power is off and to remove the transformer safely,” the regulator said in a statement.

The regulator is urging customers who purchased the product to contact Targus Australia to arrange a replacement.
