Synnex will make available what its vendor partner Getac is touting as the world’s most ‘compact and robust’ Android tablet, as the result of a new partnership signed in July.
Getac’s 7in Android Z710 tablet will be made available to Synnex’s Australian and New Zealand resellers from early October for a base price of $1699.
Synnex scored Getac as a new vendor after Getac's reseller partner Tough Corp went into voluntary liquidation in July.
Tough Corp shut down its Sydney headquarters and multiple global offices with debt to the tune of $5 million owed to Westpac bank and $561,000 owed to 77 unsecured creditors.
Synnex is owed just under $5000 by Tough Corp, while Getac put in a claim for just over $4000.
Synnex has signed up about 15 new reseller partners to Getac’s product range, including the likes of SPX Solutions and Touch Star.
Current partners including Datacom, Data#3 and Ethan Group will also sell Getac’s ruggedised mobility line.
The Z710 is being marketed as the only rugged tablet with a glove-friendly touchscreen and is targeted at sectors involving hazardous work environments.
Getac targets the defense, mining and utility sectors in Australia and New Zealand. The company operates predominantly out of Taiwan.
The device is 3G capable and according to Getac can withstand a fall from 6 feet and temperatures from -20 °C to 50 °C. It is 800g with a 10 hour battery life, a 5MP camera, and runs on Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread OS. It will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich in the first half of 2013.
