Distributor Synnex has hit targets for its build-to-order production line with company boss Frank Sheu claiming the facility was producing 100 machines per day since early this year.
The component distributor launched the $1 million facility in October last year at its Melbourne distribution headquarters and claimed it would assist local resellers and assemblers compete more favourably against Dell.
Sheu said around 300 retailers and resellers were using the service which offered up to 30 different product skews at any given time. "It's progressing well, we've now achieved the first target volume wise," Sheu said.
The facility was capable of producing up to 300 machines per day, he said.
Synnex was also building a couple of hundred "white-books" or no-name laptop computers each month, he said.
Resellers can place their own badge on pre-configured machines that are built at the BTO facility.
The average entry-level reseller buy price for machines produced by the production line was between $600 and $700 (excluding monitors), Sheu said.
Machines were higher specifications were also coming in under the $1000 mark, he said, adding that these prices were "very competitive."
