Sun Microsystems appoints new VP for APAC region
Lim replaces Denis Heraud, who will take on the leadership of Sun’s newly formed ‘Emerging Markets’ region.

According to Sun, Lim will be based in Singapore and will report to Peter Ryan, executive vice president of Sun sales and services. Lim’s new role will require him to be responsible for the Sales and Services Organisation across Asia Pacific comprising of the Asia South region (14 countries in total) which includes, Australia/ New Zealand, Japan and South Korea.

Peter Ryan, executive vice president, Global Sales and Services, Sun Microsystems, said Lim's portfolio included the role of chief of operations for the Asia Pacific region at Sun Microsystems and president of Sun Microsystems' Asia South region and Japan. In 2001, Lim was presented with the Sun Microsystems Leadership Award in recognition of his achievements in growing the Asia South region.

Lim’s involvement in the IT and communication industry goes back 29 years. After joining Sun in 1988, he was instrumental in inaugurating and building the company's operations in Asia South.

"Lionel's 20 years with Sun brings both a wealth of IT experience and a strong understanding of our customers and partners business and technology needs," said Ryan.

The Business Times in Singapore has described Lim as "A leader that leads with passion" and he is renowned for propagating Sun's vision as a thought leader to various audiences. Under Lim, the Sun Equity Partner Program was launched in Vietnam - a program designed and conceptualised to increase Sun's presence in fast growing markets in which the vendor lacked a direct presence.

His broad experience in Sun also includes a role as the President of Greater China, which comprised of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan for twelve months in 2007. During this period, Lim was integral in leading the team to significant year on year growth.

Prior to Sun, Lim held several senior management positions throughout his 9 years' tenure in Hewlett-Packard which ranged from business development, managing strategic relationships to sales operations. His last held position in Hewlett-Packard was director of sales, Hewlett-Packard Singapore. Lionel has a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Hons) from the University of Melbourne.
