Spark New Zealand enters into IT partnership with Infosys

ASX and NZX listed telco incumbent Spark New Zealand has entered into an agreement with global technology firm Infosys to transform its technology delivery model and help reduce IT operating costs.

The partnership will see Infosys provide its global DevOps and software engineering capabilities to build, test, integrate and deliver Spark's systems and applications, along with monitoring and support services.

The collaboration leverages Infosys Topaz, an artificial intelligence-first set of services using generative AI technologies, and Infosys Cobalt, a suite of cloud journey acceleration solutions.

"Infosys has worked alongside our Spark teams for over 16 years to support the applications that enable us to deliver new products and digital experiences for our customers," Matt Bain, data and marketing director at Spark, said.

"We are now building on this relationship to allow our teams to focus on our technology strategy and the product roadmaps that will grow our competitive advantage."

Under the agreement, Spark will retain ownership of its IT assets and control over its technology architecture strategy, product design and innovation roadmap.

Raja Shah, industry head of global markets at Infosys, said the company's global capabilities and innovative solutions aim to deliver significant cost efficiencies while enhancing customer experience through AI-driven insights and automation.

As part of the arrangement, Infosys will expand its local workforce in New Zealand to ensure critical local support and expertise is maintained.

The partnership forms part of Spark's SPK-26 Operate Programme, which includes a significant transformation of its technology delivery model across IT and network operations.

Spark previously announced it aims to deliver an approximately NZ$80-$100 million reduction in net labour and operating expenses in FY25, and annualised benefits of NZ$110-$140 million by FY27.
