Australian-owned systems integrator SMS Management and Technology has acquired Aipex, a Melbourne-based integrator specialising in use of the business systems integration tool, Tibco.
SMS CEO Tom Stianos told CRN he expected the new addition to add around $13 million in revenue to SMS' coffers over the next year.
He told CRN Aipex had proven implementation project experience over ten years that would help SMS bulk up its specialist range of services.
"We've been in talks with Aipex for the past two years," he said. "We've worked together in the past and our team has developed significant respect for the integrator's work."
Tibco is a business systems integration tool used to deliver business process management and services oriented architecture, he said.
"The other two Tibco specialists are IBM and Oracle and we already work with these vendors," he said.
Stianos said SMS will provide Aipex more access to market, while the acquired company will provide SMS some sought-after specialist skills.
"Even though we [SMS] had the we scale, we still required credible specialists," he said. "Aipex had the credible specialists required but it didn't have the breadth to go after larger projects."
All 54 Aipex employees will be added to SMS' 1200 staff and Aipex director Trevor Townsend has been appointed to head up SMS' national systems integration practice.
Stianos said SMS will also look at similar acquisitions in the near future.
