SMBs confused about cloud: survey

Are they, or aren’t they? That’s the question Intuit set out to answer when it surveyed SMB owners about whether they’re using cloud computing. The answer, as it turns out, is a touch complicated.

According to the survey, which polled 1000 small business owners, 98 percent believe they are not using any form of cloud – when, in fact, they are. Unfortunately the survey did not specify what form of cloud SMB owners were using – or not using, as the case may be.

The ever-infallible Gen-Y also came into the cross-hairs, with SMB owners of that generation claiming they know more about cloud than what they actually do. It’s possible Gen-Y, with a lot going for them, consider “liking” something on Facebook a form of cloud computing. And perhaps it is.

Other statistics which came out of the Intuit survey – we’ll spare you the promo of their cloud solution – found nearly half of SMBs planned to use cloud “at some point in the future,” while 73 percent think cloud would benefit their business.
