Major websites including Wikipedia and Reddit have banded together to fight those that oppose "freedom" on the Internet.
The Internet Defense League likens itself to the “bat signal” of the internet, with an "emergency broadcast signal" to coordinate large-scale online protests.
The group sprung from the opposition to the US online censorship bills PIPA and SOPA and is backed by not-for-profit Fight For The Future.
Its newly launched website tagline reads: “Make sure the internet never loses. Ever”.
Fight For The Future built the tools used in the SOPA and PIPA protest website blackouts in January.
The Huffington Post reports the same tools will be employed in an ongoing basis as a “permanent force for defending the internet”.
The group will officially launch in two weeks.
