Global software firm Sitecore has acquired Commerce Server from digital commerce firm Smith, beefing up its technology stack as competition in digital marketing heats up.

Sitecore's local managing director, Rob Holliday, told CRN: "This acquisition lays the foundation for the industry's first .NET-based, enterprise-grade customer experience management (CXM) platform with a native, fully integrated e-commerce engine.

"Bringing Commerce Server's technology onboard can help all of Sitecore's customers to build holistic experiences across every interaction, including commerce interactions.

"With the acquisition of Commerce Server, Sitecore is gaining a team of incredible e-commerce experts, to the benefit of all of our valued partners. Sitecore maintains committed to maintaining its thriving commerce partner ecosystem."

Sitecore's e-commerce partners will have access to the same integration technology that the Commerce Server team utilise, in addition to the team's expertise, making Sitecore the premier customer experience platform for any commerce solution vendor, said Holliday

Sitecore is traditionally more of a builder than buyer, however, it has picked up social media – Komfo – and print document management – Adaptive Print Studio – in the past two years.

Terms of the current agreement were not disclosed.

Sitecore chief executive Michael Seifert said the deal reflects the company's strategic vision: to build "a complete, connected experience platform that puts the customer at the heart of every interaction and engagement".

The company is especially strong within the Microsoft ecosystem, with strong integrations into SharePoint and Dynamic CRM.

Sitecore has 30 staff in Australia and a strong channel focus with more than 100 partners, including a mix of local and international operations.
