Servers Australia acquires server and cloud hosting assets of Axelera

Servers Australia has acquired the dedicated server and cloud hosting business of Sydney-based Axelera for an undisclosed sum.

Axelera has a 20-year history in the Australian hosting market, starting in 1995. The company traded under a few different names over the years, including BitCloud (its previous name), Webcity Australia and Enetica. Axelera is a division of Bucan Holdings.

Servers Australia saw Axelera’s recently developed cloud and dedicated server business as an ideal opportunity to expand its own hosting business.

The acquisition will see Axelera receive 24/7 local phone and email support as well as access to new products and services from more than 11 locations in Australia and New Zealand.

Servers Australia said it expects to broaden its reach into new verticals and products through the addition of Axelera's client base.

The purchase follows Servers’ acquisition of the customers and assets of Brisbane-based Oz Servers in September. Oz Servers owns a data centre in East Brisbane, which is supported by its Brisbane support centre.

In May, Servers Australia also forged an alliance to offload 4000 shared web hosting customers to independent domain name registrar VentraIP, which in return began marketing Servers Australia to customers that required dedicated servers.

Then in June, Servers Australia acquired thousands of customers and hundreds of racks from related companies Dedicated Servers, Indigo and Syncom.

The latest acquisition stacks onto a growing pile of transactions being made in the Australian web hosting sector.

In September, Brisbane-based Fluccs acquired fellow cloud provider and hosting service Exigent Australia and its associated brands 10TB Servers and Virtual DC. Exigent had servers in Equinix’s Sydney and Melbourne data centres, while Fluccs’ infrastructure is located at NextDC’s B1 data centre.

In May, Australian hosting provider Digital Pacific acquired fellow Sydney firm Anchor Hosting and then in August it was itself was acquired by Hostopia Australia for $52 million.

Hostopia, which also acquired Melbourne provider Panthur earlier this year, is the Australian arm of US-owned web service provider Deluxe, which acquired Hostopia in 2008.
