Seagate Technologies have launched the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD v4 – a storage device the company claims is the fastest 6TB hard drive in the world.
According to Seagate, the Enterprise Capacity 3.5 builds on an eighth-generation platform to deliver up to a 25% increase in performance over its competitors.
Seagate emphasized the device's reliability and said that "With its robust 7200-RPM performance, ramp load technology, and a humidity sensor, it delivers optimum performance even in the harshest environments".
The storage solution will also utilizes the latest generation of 12GB/s SAS to provide customers with the scalability needed to future-proof their systems.
"Unstructured data growth is doubling exponentially and will propel the digital universe to reach 16 Zettabytes of data by as early as 2017. This will cause cloud service providers to look for innovative ways to store more within an existing footprint while lowering operational costs," said Scott Horn, Seagate vice president of marketing.
“Seagate is poised to address this challenge by offering the fastest 6TB enterprise capacity HDD based on our proven, reliable platform meeting this never-ending demand in both private and public cloud data centers.”
Seagate's partners have also expressed enthusiasm towards the device. Meiji Change, general manager of QNAP, said that "With 50 percent greater storage density and optimized performance for nearline workloads, it is ideal for meeting the needs of our cloud data centre customers who demand optimized hardware for their unique workloads as well as our high capacity SAS-enabled Turbo NAS users who demand high capacity and high reliability data storage."
The hard drive will be integrated into Seagate's existing business and branded storage products later this spring but is available to select cloud partners and resellers worldwide as of today.
