SAP Cloud Platform coming to Australia via Amazon Web Services

SAP will make its cloud platform available to customers via Amazon Web Services in Australia and New Zealand starting next month.

Cloud services will be delivered through AWS Asia Pacific, located in the Sydney region. Access to local instances will allow Australian partners and customers to deploy an extended suite of SAP products including the new SAP HANA, which provides users with SAP HANA cloud instances on-demand with consumption-based pricing and elastic scale.

Customers will also be able to deploy SAP Leonardo locally, which the software company said combined AI, analytics, IoT and machine learning to help fast-track digital transformation. Customers can also use SAP Conversation AI, allowing them to develop chatbots, and SAP Cloud Platform Blockhain for helping businesses extend their solutions with blockchain.

AWS Australia managing director Paul Migliorini mentioned a handful of local customers already running their mission-critical SAP workloads in AWS, such as Contact Energy, Fairfax Media, GPT, Origin, OZ Minerals, Seek.com and Visy. SAP and AWS have been working together at a global level since 2011.

"This initiative with SAP extends customers’ ability to enable digital transformation on AWS, remediate existing technology investments, but even more importantly, free up resources to drive innovation," Migliorini said.

SAP has seen a number of changes to its leadership team in recent months, including the departure of general manager for HANA Cloud sales Vince Randall last month.

SAP's ANZ president and managing director Colin Brookes revealed he was leaving last week after 12 months in the role, and was replaced by then vice president of strategic industries and markets Damien Bueno.
