SanDisk breaks 64GB SD card barrier

SanDisk has unveiled its first 64GB SD memory card, and said that the current format can be scaled up to store 2TB.

The SanDisk Ultra SDXC (eXtended Capacity) card has been designed for the photo and video markets, and is capable of data transfer rates of up to 15MB/s. The SDXC format under the SD 3.0 specification allows the cards to scale up to 2TB and 300MB/s.

"SDXC is the successor to the popular SDHC card format," said Susan Park, director of retail product marketing at SanDisk.

"The 64GB SanDisk Ultra SDXC card delivers the speed and capacity consumers need for extended HD video recording and improved rapid shooting of still images. The card is an ideal complement for recently announced SDXC-compatible cameras and camcorders."

The new card is available in the US initially, and costs US$349.99 (A$392.53).
