Saint Song lays claim to world’s smallest PC

Taiwan-based Saint Song claims to have produced the world's smallest PC.

At the Computex technology expo in Taipei last week, Saint Song introduced the Latte Genie PC, which packs an Intel Pentium 4 processor of up to 3.4GHz along with an Intel 865GV chipset and an 800MHz front-side bus in a package measuring just 8.3 x 6.6 x 2.7in.

Also included in the tiny PC are four USB 2.0 ports (two on the front and two on the back), a Gigabit Ethernet connection, a 100Mb/s Ethernet connection, a modem port, an IrDA infrared port, a four-in-one memory card reader and two PCMCIA slots for future expandability, said Allen Kuo, sales manager at the company.

Saint Song's latest small form-factor PC, the Latte Genie is targeted at the SOHO, point-of-sale, gaming and home-theatre markets, Kuo said.

Despite the unit's compact size, it actually offers plenty of expandability, he said, noting that wireless capability can be added via the on-board PCMCIA card.

The main reason for the Latte Genie's small size is that its power supply is external to the PC, much in the same way as on a notebook computer, Kuo said. The external power supply also simplifies cooling, he said.
