Nasdaq-listed network optimisation company Riverbed has bought New Zealand-based web content specialists Aptimize and Britain’s load balancing experts Zeus Technology.
Financial terms of the deals were witheld.
Riverbed described Aptimize as a leader in the emerging area of web content optimisation, which is concerned with allowing users to deliver internal and external web applications.
It goes beyond HTTP and TCP, making the process more efficient by transforming content such as javascript, cascading style sheets and images, in real time.
“Aptimize provides a new type of optimisation that can be applied to all types of web-based content,” said Riverbed chief executive Jerry Kennelly, adding that while Riverbed’s Steelhead solutions are made to optimise the protocols that web pages traverse, Aptimize ensures that content reaches its potential on the end user’s device.
"Aptimize and Riverbed bring together the two powerful technologies for accelerating applications inside and outside the firewall," Aptimize chief executive Ed Robinson said. "The coming together of these two companies will create a unique offering in the marketplace."
Riverbed said Aptimize solutions would continue to be sold through the latter’s existing channel in Australia and New Zealand while bolstering the network optimisation offerings of Riverbed’s resellers.
Zeus Technology, the other company to be brought into the Riverbed fold, specialises in software for load balancing and traffic management in virtual and cloud environments.
