RIM buys online video editing company

Research in Motion has bought online video editing outfit JayCut for an undisclosed sum.

The JayCut acquisition was hoped to boost the usability of the PlayBook’s high definition cameras, HDMI output and high resolution playbook, according to RIM chief technology officer David Yach.

“By working with JayCut to add video editing capabilities to the BlackBerry platform we can further enrich our customers’ multimedia experience with BlackBerry,” he said on the company blog.

The Swedish-based company kicked off its online video editing technology in 2006, and currently licensed it to a variety of websites.

Last December RIM announced its intent to acquire TAT, a 180 staff Swedish firm based in Stockholm, whose user-interface talent would be put to work on RIM's PlayBook tablet.
