Revolution IT and CA Technologies win major SaaS deal with Melbourne council

Revolution IT has won a contract with Melbourne council City of Whittlesea to deploy CA Technologies’ project and portfolio management (PPM) solution.

The council is making the leap to software-as-a-service from a more ad hoc approach to project management.

“Up until now much of the decision-making within the council’s major works department for its $60 million worth of projects per year relied on data from a variety of single-purpose solutions,” the council said in a statement.

“These included a mix of popular desktop applications as well as email, bespoke project management and financial systems. This disparate array of solutions was not only cumbersome and time-consuming to work with but also produced varying sets of results.”

The City of Whittlesea picked CA’s PPM solution and Revolution IT through a tender, pointing to its “strong” features, functionality and scalability.

“CA Technologies has been one of the most cooperative vendors we’ve worked with,” said Rod Cann, City of Whittlesea team leader for major projects.

“Having the flexibility to purchase CA PPM as SaaS was also a huge benefit as it let us avoid the high, upfront costs associated with hardware and software, storage and networking equipment.”

Revolution IT, which turned over $38 million in 2016 and landed at No.44 in the CRN Fast50, had been “instrumental to the success” of the project, through implementation, training, change management and post-implementation support, according to the council.

“They are real experts in CA PPM as well as project management methodologies and this was invaluable in terms of the partnership for the success of the project,” McCann said.

The CA solution will help Whittlesea help plan and budget for upcoming financial years, so an employee would not need to spend a total of three months working full time on the task.

It will also enable the council to have a single platform to access relevant data for gaining insight into its business, so its major projects team can improve reporting on the status of projects and how they are tracking against budget.
