CRN Fast50 reseller Revolution IT was one of several resellers among the 60 Australian companies listed in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific 2009, which was announced yesterday.
The Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific recognised technology companies that have achieved the fastest rates of annual revenue growth in the region during the past three years.
Of the Australian companies listed in the Fast 500, 24 were in software, 17 were internet-related, 16 in telecommunications/networking and two biotech/pharmaceutical/medical equipment related.
Revolution IT (CRN Fast50 No.15) was ranked 92nd in the Deloitte list, while cloud computing company Emantra topped the list of Australian companies at 14th place.
Another CRN Fast50 reseller, nSynergy, was ranked 16th in the Deloitte list and telco company Mint Wireless was 25th.
Hamish Leighton, director of Revolution IT, said the company was "absolutely chuffed".
"The awards don't pay the bills, but they're great recognition and send a very positive vibe through the place.
"We've had a few [awards] lately," he said.
Leighton told CRN that a key focus for him last year was to keep his team together, despite economic pressures brought on by the global downturn.
"It was a tough year compared to what we wanted to achieve. We had to revise targets, but one of the things we did was we were very focused on keeping the team and not losing staff.
"We got through with the team in place," he said.
With 60 companies, Australia ranked fifth in the region, behind Taiwan (99), China (97), India (71) and Korea (66). New Zealand was ranked sixth with 51 companies and Japan seventh with 46 companies.
Deloitte said that for a third year in a row, software companies outranked all other sectors (with 163 companies), and internet was a distant second (78).
Damien Tampling, Deloitte's technology, media and telecommunications lead partner in Australia, said the Australian technology sector had a good year in 2009 despite the uncertain economic times.
"The technology sector in Australia has been able to adapt well to the economic uncertainty in 2009 with publicly listed companies able to raise capital funding worth $385 million on the ASX, a sign of confidence from investors that the future looks bright for the sector," Tampling said.
