Police spoil JB Hi-Fi robbery

Victoria police interrupted a 24 year old man halfway through robbing a JB Hi-Fi store in Melbourne.

Police would not confirm if the burglar is linked to the trio recently targeting the electronic chain in Melbourne.

The burglar forced entry through a rear window at JB Hi-Fi's Malvern store at 1.30am. Police were called to the scene and confronted the burglar. He then climbed into the roof cavity.

Local police, together with the canine unit, tried to talk the man down to safety.

The man did not comply and "fell approximately two storeys into a concrete stairwell".

He was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for "head injuries".

Police at the scene could not comment.

A spokesperson said police did not have information to connect the burglary to the reported seven JB Hi-Fi robberies in Melbourne in recent months.

The most recent JB Hi-Fi robbery took place at the retail chain's Werribee store in Victoria last month. Three men stole "a large amount" of products – mostly Apple devices – before fleeing in a getaway car at 1:50 am.

JB Hi-Fi's Ballarat store was targeted in October. Three men broke in at 2.20 am and stole $40,000 worth of Apple products.
