Parallels signs Simms for Mac virtualisation

Distributor Simms International has partnered with Parallels to exclusively supply the vendor's virtualisation and automation Mac software to Apple resellers in Australia and New Zealand.

Under the agreement, Simms would supply the Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac and Parallels Desktop 6 Switch to Mac software to Apple resellers and retailers in the two countries.

Both countries would manage the supply, which included a box product and licensing, separately.

Simm's partnership with its existing virtualisation partner VMware would end and Pararells became the exclusive virtualisation vendor for Simms, Gavin Trust, Simms product marketing director, told CRN.

“That is the product range that we’ll be starting with,” he said.

Simms managing director Danny Moore said, “Parallels extends our software offering and opens up some very interesting opportunities around cloud computing.

Simms became the second Parallels supplier in the region joining Software Only and replacing  former partner Conexus.

John Eng, vice president for marketing and alliances for Parallels Asia Pacific, said it approached Simms late last year because “it made perfect sense for us to get together".

“As we looked to expand into the fastest growing Mac market. We really wanted to have a footprint and we’ve always heard of Simms," he said.

Cloud computing

Simms and Parallels remained in talks about a cloud partnership.  Parallels already supplies virtualisation software to ISPs and web hosts to deliver services.

“We’re looking into what the business models are available. The space is evolving,” Moore said.
