Ovo Mobile forges 800-store retail deal with Australia Post

Ovo Mobile has secured its second brick-and-mortar retail deal in as many weeks by partnering with Australia Post.

Two of the challenger telco’s SIM cards will be available in close to 800 Australia Post stores, and will give Ovo a physical presence in every state and territory.

The plans on offer are Ovo’s “mini” plan designed as a starter plan for kids, and the “large” plan, which comes with 8 GB data and unlimited calls and SMS for $34.95.

The new partnership accompanies a deal made two weeks ago with convenience store chain 7-Eleven to sell SIM cards in 617 stores. Ovo sold its products exclusively online up until last week.

Chief executive Matt Jones said the accessibility of Australia Post for families was one of the main reasons for the partnership, as well as an expansive footprint in regional Australia.

"Due to these two plans, the bulk of Ovo's customers are families; parents are buying plans for themselves and their school-aged kids."

Ovo launched in 2016 and sells its mobile services over Optus’ 4G network.

“The bricks-and-mortar retail strategy is really starting to build momentum as we cater to people who either prefer to purchase items like mobile and data plans from a shop, or want the added convenience of not waiting for their SIM to be posted to them," said Jones.
