Over four million orders for iPhone 6 in 24 hours

Apple has announced a record four million pre-orders globally for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 24 hours.

A "significant amount" will be delivered to pre-order customers from 19 September and through September, while many pre-ordered phones will be delivered in October.

Additional phones will be available to walk-in customers from Friday 19 September at 8am at Apple retail stores.

Both models will be available from Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, additional carriers, Apple's online store and select Apple Authorised Resellers.

The iPhone 6 will be available in Australia for $869 for the 16GB model, AUD$999 for the 64GB model and a new 128GB model for AUD$1,129.

The iPhone 6 Plus will be available for $999 for the 16GB model, $1129 for the 64GB model and $1,249 for the new 128GB model.

The phones will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany and other countries from 19 September, and in more than 20 additional countries from 26 September.
