Oracle has stopped taking applications for its Cloud Managed Service Provider Program.
The company’s reasons for doing so could be construed as good news for both Oracle and the channel, because the company says the reason is “Due to overwhelming interest, we’ve reached program capacity and can no longer accept new applications for the Oracle Cloud MSP Program after February 28, 2019.”
Overwhelming interest and fully-utilised capacity is good news, because Oracle’s cloud is generally reckoned to lag AWS, Azure, Google and IBM for adoption and revenue. Oracle’s pushed its cloud very hard in recent times, giving it a substantial upgrade and competing keenly on price. If the channel has noticed to the extent that its MSP program is overwhelmed, that’s surely good news for Oracle. And if Oracle is closing the program before it runs out of resources with which to service partners, that's no bad thing either.
But keen-eyed CRN readers may have noticed the contradiction inherent in Oracle’s statement: if Oracle has “reached program capacity” why is it still taking applications for another three weeks?
A plausible answer is that Oracle doesn’t want to annoy MSPs who are yet to complete their paperwork. A more cynical view is that Big Red is giving potential partners a hurry-up.
Oracle’s announcement of the new application deadline goes out of its way to calm MSPs already in the program. “This announcement does not impact the ability of existing MSP partners to conduct business and place orders under the current program so long as they continue to meet the program qualifications,” the announcement says.
