Optus to get Siemens’ modems

Networking vendor Siemens has signed a deal with Optus to supply the telco with ADSL2+ modems.

The deal is part of Optus’ rollout of its $150 million dollar high-speed broadband network which kicked off in March.

The exclusive agreement will see Siemens supply Optus with Speedstream 4200 self-install modems which deliver services across existing copper wire telecommunications networks at speeds approaching six megabits per second.

A spokesperson for Optus said the Telco awarded Siemens the contract based on a tender process which included a service agreemnt to support users of Optus’ DSL Direct service which offers speeds of up to 20Mb/s.
