Telco Optus has been awarded a contract by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), valued at $24.3 million.
The contract was won through an open tender via the Digital Transformation Agency's Marketplace, and will run from February 1 this year, to January 31, 2028.
A spokesperson for DAFF told CRN Australia that the contract with Optus is for telecommunications services to support operational continuity.
"The vendor will provide telephone, internet (including satellite) and data carrier services that connect DAFF's many geographically dispersed sites," the spokesperson said.
"It will also provide improved call centre software solutions services, which will enable our call centre to manage high volumes of communications for our critical services, across biosecurity, agriculture programs, and more," the spokesperson added.
In June last year, Optus won a $578 million deal with Services Australia.
That work involved transitioning SA off Telstra-based contact centre management services, modernising the agency's telephony systems.
