Optus Business and Canberra Data Centres partner on cloud services offering

Optus has partnered with Canberra Data Centres (CDC) in a move to bolster its offering of cloud services across Canberra and provide new, high-speed access across government services for its customers.

CDC operates four data centres across two campuses in the ACT, housing more than 40 government departments. The government has come to rely on CDC, which not only offers the benefit of proximity to the capital and government headquarters, but also meets strict regulatory requirements for hosting government data.

CDC is the only commercial data centre provider that has facilities built to meet top secret compliance and the only commercial data centre provider that is certified to secret classification for all its data centre buildings, staff and data halls, according to CDC.

The business services arm of Optus will offer its customers, both in enterprise and government, a private cloud-as-a-service model, according to managing director John Paitaridis, who said the move was about keeping up with the increasing customer demands to transition services to the cloud.

“This new partnership with CDC enables Optus to offer secure private cloud solutions including IAAS, managed storage and disaster recovery-as-a-service immediately and a facility to house our UCaaS and CCaaS offerings for the local Canberra market, showcasing Optus’ ICT credentials to deliver an expansive range of services for Government and enterprise clients of the CDC,” he said.

CDC chief executive Greg Boorer said the colocation facility welcomed the partnership.

“We are very excited about working with Optus as we build our data centre services in a cloud-native world," he said.

"Offering government enhanced options to seamlessly interconnect between their traditional infrastructure, private cloud, protected cloud and public cloud environments in one data centre ecosystem is unique and only available from within the CDC ecosystem."
