SaaS Security vendor Obsidian Security said it has launched a new data centre, hosted by Amazon Web Services in Sydney.
The data centre is support the data sovereignty goals of its Australian customers and extend the company's reach into the Asia-Pacific region.
Last month, Obsidian announced that would expand into the Asia-Pacific - Japan region, including Australia.
Co-founder of Obsidian Security, Glenn Chisholm, is a former chief information security officer at Telstra, who set up the security company in California with computer scientist Matt Wolff in 2017.
The new platform region, built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), is now available.
It allows local customers to deploy Obsidian's SaaS security solution while meeting data governance requirements.
"Our platform is the only solution that combines application posture with identity security to offer customers complete SaaS security," Chisholm said.
"And with this new data centre, customers can confidently adopt Obsidian to protect their entire SaaS ecosystem without data leaving Australia," he added.
The establishment of the Australian data centre addresses the growing concern among businesses about ensuring their sensitive SaaS application data remains within their region.
This move upholds data sovereignty for Australian customers without compromising security standards.
Obsidian Security's investment in the Asia-Pacific region is driven by the importance local businesses place on security, and the company's existing ties to the Australian market which includes Chisholm.
The company has also made other recent investments in Australia, including the establishment of an Australian Technical Centre of Excellence and expanding local headcount across various technical fields.
