Nutanix partner Scope Systems rips out Perth law firm Jackson McDonald's legacy system

Nutanix partner Scope Systems has secured a deal to upgrade Perth law firm Jackson McDonald’s IT environment, adding new data analytics and hybrid cloud capabilities.

Scope Systems general manager of infrastructure services Stuart Gunnis told CRN that Jackson McDonald was using a typical storage area network (SAN) compute environment that brought certain limitations.

“Jackson McDonald had issues with scalability and disaster recovery, as well as with managing the legacy environment altogether,” Gunnis said.

“The deployment was very easy, and we had the system up and running almost right away.”

As part of the migration to the Nutanix environment, Jackson McDonald launched a human resources information system that compiles and analyses data from various sources to assist with the hiring process.

A client login platform was also introduced on the platform to foster collaboration between clients and legal teams through a “digital workspace”.

“The Nutanix Enterprise Cloud OS software has given us the capability to launch data analytics services,” Jackson McDonald IT manager Asfar Sadewa said.

“For example, our DevOps team has launched a new HR information system that compiles and analyses data from a variety of sources to give us a more effective hiring process.”

He added that Nutanix helped reduce IT outage risks, identifying minor issues before they cause a major problem so decisions can be made to prevent outages.

The firm also plans to use Nutanix’s Calm public cloud management system, which automates and orchestrates apps across public cloud and on-premises infrastructure.

“One of the notable traits about law firms is that workloads tend to be flexible or elastic – they ramp up and down regularly,” Matt Young, Nutanix senior vice president and head of APJ said.

“As technology plays a wider role in how these firms deliver their services, it’s important that IT infrastructure can match this and scale up or down as needed.”

The upgrade allowed the law firm’s infrastructure team to focus on more business-focused activities, including software development and other digital initiatives, which has resulted in higher team morale.

“Our Western Australia partner Scope Systems made this deployment as simple as possible for Jackson McDonald,” Jacob Pereira, Nutanix senior director of channels for Asia-Pacific and Japan, said.

“The deployment was a non-event – up and running in less than a day, and now Jackson McDonald has access to the support of both Scope and Nutanix to help it realise the full potential of enterprise cloud technology.”
