Nutanix has named Michael Alp as its new managing director for Australia and New Zealand, the multicloud computing company said.
Alp joins Nutanix from Cohesity, where he led the vendor's ANZ business as managing director. He will be based in Sydney, and brings 35 yers of enterprise IT experience to the role at Nutanix.
As Nutanix MD, Alp will work closely with Aaron White, general manager and vice president of Nutanix Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ).
Prior to Cohesity, Alp held senior positiosn at Pure Storage, Polycom, and EMC
In his new role, Alp will be responsible for developing Nutanix's business strategy for ANZ and fostering strategic networks and partnerships across both countries.
His appointment comes at a time as organisations in the region increasingly shift from 'cloud-first' to hybrid multicloud strategies.
Alp said the the ANZ cloud market is mature and noted that organisations now need the flexibility to run their applications and data across various environments.
He sees Nutanix's Cloud Platform as well positioned to address these evolving needs, as well as other pressing challenges such as de-risking infrastructure following vendor acquisitions and integrating AI into business operations.
Nutanix general manager of APJ, Aaron White cited Alps' extensive experience and relationships in the ANZ technology sector as key positives for the role.
He drew a parallel between Alp's background as a former Rugby Front Rower and Nutanix's mission to break down silos in the cloud world, suggesting this is the perfect fit to lead the local business.
In November last year, Nutanix appointed its first ANZ cloud economist, with Shree Balachandran stepping into the role.
