The NSW Government has delivered a small cash injection and created a taskforce to boost the state’s digital economy.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Stoner announced the Digital Economy Industry Action plan and a $3 million Interactive Media Fund for digital projects, electronic games and transmedia projects last night.
Speaking at the 2011 NSW Pearcey Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, Mr Stoner said the ten year action plan will address digital content and applications, information services and analytics, smart networks and other intelligent technologies.
He said companies would also be able to access up to $250,000 in Interactive Media Fund grants, up from $100,000 in previous funding announcements.
The Government’s digital taskforce will be made up of nine representatives from the digital sector including IBM’s Glenn Wightwick, Omnilab’s Tom Kennedy, Telstra’s Deena Shiff, Foxtel CIO Robyn Elliott and Dr Alex Zelinsky, Group Executive of Information Services at the CSIRO. It will also be open to public submissions.
