TORONTO (Reuters) - Nortel Networks Corp said on Monday it had won a contract to build an internet protocol backbone for Comcast Corp, the top US cable operator.
Nortel, one of the world's largest designers and sellers of telecom equipment, said the deal was its biggest cable contract of the year, and brings to 24 the number of cable contracts it has won so far in 2005.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Brampton, Ontario-based Nortel said Comcast will deploy its optical equipment to build an IP system across 35 US states. Comcast is building an integrated service delivery network for analog and digital video, high-speed internet, commercial business, and digital voice services.
