Australian company NextDC has joined forces with multinational Veeam in a technology alliance to promote the vendor's cloud offerings to the channel.

The NextDC-Veeam alliance will see the services of partners common to both companies promoted to the market. The push will also include "new go-to market offerings through add-on or white labelling services that partners can leverage", according to a statement from Veeam.

The deal will also offer technical and business sessions on Veeam's Cloud Provider programme to NextDC's partner base. The VCP program offers monthly or perpetual software via "special licensing exclusively for hosting, managed service and cloud service providers".

“We are directly supporting Veeam's industry-leading monthly rental model cloud services program with the introduction of a quarter-rack product that makes it easier for Veeam service providers to set up and operate a Cloud Connect service,” said NextDC chief executive Craig Scroggie.

Veeam's Asia-Pacific vice president Don Williams told CRN that by not creating its own cloud, the vendor and NextDC "don't dictate" how its partners bring customers to the cloud.

"With NextDC's data centre-as-a-service, partners have freedom to configure for what they want to take to the market, or they can customise the service for particular customers," said Williams.

The alliance kicked off yesterday with a half-day technical session to enable "partners to leverage Veeam to build and deliver an efficient 'as-a-Service' model" in Brisbane.

Williams said: "Brisbane is one of our first VCP-focused events. Other cities have not been scheduled yet – we're seeing how we go [in Brisbane] first."

Demand had been pleasingly high for the initial session, according to the executive.

"It's not the first time we've run these kinds of sessions though. With our [distribution] partner Newlease, we have done a lot of events on the rental and pay-per-use model."

NextDC is an ASX-listed company that last month reported a loss of $23 million while trebling its data centre revenue. Veeam is a data management software provider headquartered in Switzerland with over 25,000 partners worldwide.
