New Wi-fi 7 access points from Cisco unveiled

Cisco has unveiled a new range of Wi-Fi 7 access points designed to transform workplaces into intelligent, secure spaces equipped for the AI era.

The technology giant said its latest wireless innovations would help organisations tackle connectivity and security challenges while future-proofing their operations.

The new access points can be managed both on-premises and through cloud systems, with the ability to switch seamlessly between the two.

This flexibility comes through a unified networking subscription that covers Cisco's entire Wi-Fi 7 solution.

Cisco's offering includes artificial intelligence-powered performance optimisations and self-configuration capabilities.

The access points can automatically detect their location when plugged in.

Security features include AI-native device profiling and advanced wireless security encryption to protect every connection.

"Wi-Fi is a ubiquitous technology that is critical enabler of everyday and mission-critical communications for organisations across the world," Brandon Butler, IDC senior research manager covering enterprise networks said.

Early adopters include Fira de Barcelona trade exhibition centre, which hosts 270 events annually including Mobile World Congress (MWC).

"As high-bandwidth technology proliferates, the ability to support AR/VR and live-streaming is even more critical."

That's why we're so happy Wi-Fi 7 from Cisco is here," Carlos Sanchez Baena, telco manager at Fira de Barcelona said.

"Just about everything we do blends human behaviour with sensors, cameras, or screens—physical experiences in an increasingly digital world. And Wi-Fi is at the centre of it all," Jeetu Patel, Cisco chief product officer said.

The new access points will be available to order in November 2024, with shipping beginning in December 2024.
