SASE provider Netskope has appointed former Australian Defence Force cyber warfare chief Dr Marcus Thompson as CxO advisor for Australia and New Zealand.
The retired Major General brings 34 years of military experience to the role, including deployments to East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Dr Thompson established the Australian Defence Force's cyber warfare capability as Head of Information Warfare before founding independent advisory firm Cyber Compass.
"There is a lot of regulatory change coming up in the cyber landscape that Australian companies and government agencies will need to navigate," said Dr Thompson.
His appointment comes as Netskope continues to expand its presence in the government sector, with more than 30 Federal, State and local government entities among its customer base.
The decorated military veteran holds multiple advanced degrees including a PhD in Cyber Security from UNSW and was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in 2014.
"Our advisory group is all about strengthening industry collaboration to best advise major Australian businesses and agencies," David Fairman, Netskope's chief information officer and chief security officer for APAC said.
In his new role, Dr Thompson will advise Netskope customers on cybersecurity strategy while supporting the company's business development and product initiatives.
His expertise in Zero Trust (ZT) and SASE models will help organisations navigate evolving regulatory requirements, including recent updates to the SOCI Act.
The appointment reinforces Netskope's commitment to providing strategic cybersecurity guidance to its growing Australian customer base.
Thompson will be based in Canberra.
