Netregistry: IT resellers need to get online to survive

The company expects to see a rise in the launch of online stores in 2009, with traditional retailers tapping into the online revenue stream and new businesses taking advantage of the low cost of internet business.

As budgets tighten and families stay at home more, they are turning to the internet to find bargain, as shown by year-on-year growth in online sales in 2008, said Larry Bloch, CEO of Netregistry.

"Over time, a lot of resellers have started to see their online channel growing. For finding customers it is a natural extension to your business because the more products you can add the more choice you can provide them with," said Bloch.

"It's easier to enhance your portfolio online than it is in store. Physical products are more difficult to manage, therefore it is cheaper and easier for resellers to increase their products online."

The survey, compared Netregistry customers, primarily of online businesses, against other non-Netregistry small to medium enterprises (SMEs).

 The results were;

Online business owners are more confident about their business prospects in 2009. 46 percent versus 13 percent - 3.5 times

Online businesses are more likely to be planning expansion in 2009. 57 percent compared to 39 percent

Online business performance indicators are higher. In all key areas - including sales, profitability, capital expenditure and employment

Online businesses are twice as likely to export. 28 percent compared to 15 percent

The survey was conducted in November 2008 by Sweeney Research for the Sensis Quarterly Business Index on behalf of Netregistry and Nett Magazine.
