NetApp unveils new capabilities for VMware Cloud Foundation

NetApp has announced new features to support VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) deployments, enabling customers to optimise their IT environments for running VMware workloads at scale.

The company, which has collaborated with VMware for over a decade, continues to drive innovation in storage solutions as a design partner for Next-Generation vSphere Virtual Volumes.

These new capabilities aim to help joint customers run their VMware deployments more efficiently.

"NetApp and Broadcom are working together to take the uncertainty out of hybrid cloud environments", said Jonsi Thorgrimur Stefansson, senior vice president and chief technology officer at NetApp.

The new offerings include expanded support for VCF, allowing customers to use NetApp ONTAP software for all storage requirements.

ONTAP is NetApp's BSD Unix-based operating system.

The latest ONTAP Tools for VMware will support SnapMirror active sync, providing symmetric active-active data replication capabilities.

For Azure VMware Solution users, NetApp introduced Spot Eco to manage reserved instances, potentially reducing compute costs significantly when used with Azure NetApp Files for data storage.

NetApp also launched Cloud Insights VM Optimisation, a comprehensive solution for optimising virtual environments.

This tool aims to reduce costs by increasing VM density and ensuring optimal storage performance.

"Having NetApp as a close collaborator helps our mutual customers deploy innovative data and storage services on top of their private cloud platform, and ensure they are getting the most value out of their VMware environments", Paul Turner, vice president of products, VCF Division at Broadcom, said.

These updates follow recent enhancements to NetApp BlueXP disaster recovery service, which now supports VMFS datastores for VMware workloads in hybrid cloud environments.

The new features from NetApp aim to streamline operations, reduce costs, and increase flexibility for organisations running VMware environments.
