NEC wins $15m microwave radio deployment

NEC Australia has scored a $15 million contract with an unspecified major Aussie telco to deploy radio equipment.

The three-year contract involves iPasolink radio equipment from parent company NEC Corporation to support 4G network expansions and 5G deployments in both metro and regional areas.

NEC did not reveal the customer, but said it is “one of the largest T1 Mobile Operators in Australia.”

NEC said the solutions, specifically 650 iPasolink Microwave links and a Ubiquiti Network Management System, will enable faster 5G network rollout and provide more reliable mobile telecommunications services.

In a press release issued today, NEC Australia head of critical infrastructure Krisztian Som said, “Our ongoing investment in product development and market leading solutions enables operational cost reduction and deliver fibre-like capacity over microwave for 5G networks.”
