NEC wins $14 million Victorian education contract

NEC IT Solutions Australia has been awarded a $14.1 million services contract with the Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET).

The solutions provider will upgrade the systems used by DET's higher education and skills group (HESG), which is used to manage contracts with registered training organisations that delivers vocational educations and training.

The deal also includes cloud services, implementation, development, managed services, maintenance and support, professional services and hardware services.

Within the cloud solution is a CRM engine that includes an external portal and must cater for up to 900 training providers, 1600 training provider active users, 200 internal users and 10 system administrators.

The contract was awarded in August and runs until July 2021 with the possibility of two two-year extensions.

NEC will also supply 50 Oracle's Policy Automation licenses as part of the contract.

Other third-party software vendors included as part of the contract are GNU's Drupal, Genix Ventures' (approved subcontractor) Casegenix, IBM's Cognos Analytics, SPSS Modeller Professional, DB2, Oracle's MySQL, Microsoft's Windows Server, and HP's SAW.

"The upgrade comes as the department implements Skills First, its new approach to training and TAFE, which includes more detailed monitoring of training," said a department spokesperson.

"NEC IT Solutions Australia was the successful bidder selected on the basis that its proof of concept met the business requirements and was technically 'fit for purpose'."

The new solution is expected to go live on 30 September 2017, according to the contract between NEC and HESG.
