Microsoft has again varied the way it will update Windows 10.
The changes have been announced ahead of Windows 10 19H2, the major update due in September 2019.
Microsoft has dampened expectations for the release, saying it will offer “a scoped set of features for select performance improvements, enterprise features, and quality enhancements”.
It’s also explained that 19H2 will be released in a new way.
For users of the May Update to Windows 10, “updating to the new release will have a far faster update experience because the update will install like a monthly update” wrote John Cable, Microsoft’s director of program management for Windows servicing and delivery.
Users of other Windows 10 versions will get the current experience we all know and love – an hour or more of Windows re-installing and re-booting itself.
Even without the new update mechanism and with a promised boring feature set, the update will be important to enterprise users, as it will receive 30 months of service. At least for those running Windows 10 Enterprise or Windows 10 Education editions.
