Microsoft has signed a $36 million dollar deal with the NSW Department of Health to supply it with a plethora of software products, through its channel partners.
Kevin Ackhurst, public sector director, Microsoft said the deal would see NSW Health commit itself to purchasing products from Microsoft over the next three years.
NSW Health will use Microsoft technologies including: Windows, Office 2003, Windows Server, Exchange Server, SharePoint Portal Server, Systems Management Server, Microsoft Operations Manager(MOM), MSDN and SQL Server and Active Directory. .NET will also be adopted as the development platform for NSW Health.
The agreement covers around 90,000 employees, across 40,000 desktops and 2,500 servers.
Ackhurst said the deal was part of NSW Premier Morris Iemma’s plans to revitalise the government's IT infrastructure.
He said the contract was not put through a tender process. Instead, the deal was administered through the Department of Commerce standard issue ITS 2310 which allows for a NSW Department to procure products without having to issue a request for tender.
